How We Made the Determination of the Updates Below:
We at PWC (Palms Wellness Center) have listened to all of you, our patients and reviewed the "'Evidence Based" research studies, which has been a part of our collective decision making for the summer, and possibly on into the fall, for the coordination of care for all of our patients. Please read the information below to assist you in understanding the Policies and Procedures regarding access to care During COVID:19.

Due to the Lower Rates of Those who have been vaccinated and the rise of deaths in many areas of NC and other South Region States we have had to return to "Curb Side" services. 

For the safety and well being of all our staff and patients due to the rise of hospitalizations and deaths in and around Onslow County NC. we have returned to "Curb Side" services for all "current" and "most" new patients care needs.

We at PWC (Palms Wellness Center) have listened to all our patients voices and reviewed the "'Evidence Based" research studies, which has been a part of our collective decision.  Please read the information below to assist you in understanding the Policies and Procedures regarding access to care During COVID:19.

What Happens For “Current Patients” Now that the Numbers of deaths and Hospitalizations have risen?

While vaccinations nationwide have been well on the rise, this does not apply to "all" geographic locations. We feel that we must do our due diligence in protecting our staff, patients and practitioners as best we possibly can for everyones welfare involved.  Due to the low rate of persons vaccinated in Onslow County NC. (location of our physical clinic), we will be continuing to provide care with the same safety measures in place with a few changes. These changes are listed for you right here for ease of access.  Staff are always willing to assist you with any concerns you may have.  NOTE: As is "standard" with all your medical history,  we do "need" a copy of your vaccinations to update your medical chart.

New Changes 6/16/21 and Updated 9-1-21

If you have Received your Vaccines: We require all people who have a need to enter our waiting area (all other areas are at this time closed to all persons other than staff unless there is a scheduled appointment that stats specifically that you will be entering the hallway, bathroom or one of our back offices).

If you have NOT Received your Vaccines: You will continue to receive services the same way which you have prior as of March 2020. We 'strongly" encourage you to receive your vaccinations immediately for yourself and any family members age 12 or older. In "one day" during the month of Aug. 2021 there were 37 deaths in Onslow Co. alone! There are reportedly 26 EMT professionals who have tested positive for COVID-19 as well during the same week right in Onslow County. We have had daily reports from current patients who have themselves and/or family members who have tested positive for COVID-19, and many have required medical interventions. In some cases there have been loss of life. You can access vaccines at this time on a "Walk In" basis at Walgreens and CVS Pharmacies across the state. You do "not" need to wait for an appointment. We urge you to not delay.  We cannot begin to tell the numerous reports of those that delayed and within a day before they had planned on getting their shot done, they found themselves instead at the hospital emergency room needing immediate medical interventions. You do not want to be in this situation.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Just because you receive your vaccinations does "not" mean you cannot still get COVID-19/Delta or another strain as they continue to mutate as we write this. It DOES mean that you will "not" end up in a ICU unit for days or weeks gasping for air, and needing intensive care to save your life. Or worse, actually die. This is what the vaccine is currently able to prevent you and your loved ones from experiencing. We want to help clarify the "facts". We are often finding that many people have misunderstood that the Vaccines protect you from getting very sick, hospitalized, or worse, losing your or a loved ones life. Masks are still needed in close indoor spaces, as anyone can unknowingly be "hosting" this deadly virus and thereby spreading to their own friends and family, or strangers in these close spaces. Pls continue to use "safe spacing" (6 ft ...or more), and wearing a mask. The mask is what we have right now to protect "Children!" who are too young for vaccinations at this time.


Do I still need to wear a mask: 6/15/21... Remains in place as of 9-1-21
We ask for everyone to continue to wear masks in all of our public office spaces, such as waiting areas etc. This is to help keep down the risk of exposure to new strains of COVID.  Please understand In the event that  you have received both vaccinations this does "not" mean that you cannot still get COVID-19, and you may even have some symptoms that for some who have secondary medical conditions to feel really bad! It only means that you are with less than a 2% chance of dying should you get COVID and feel very ill. Most people will show little to even no symptoms, so you won't know that you have COVID/DELTA, and can indeed spread it. We have to have the same respect we have always shown each other in our waiting areas and shared spaces.


MORE INFO ON POLICIES AND PROCEDURES TO ASSIST YOU AND YOUR CARE NEEDS

For all  established patients, we will continue to provide care as we have been with the use of both virtual office and in physical office visits, at this time.  If you are being seen for treatment that requires you to have ‘labs’ done, you will continue to check-in curb side, and in nearly all cases, you will also be provided the swab collection method, curb side, by our lab tech or an assistant. We will be continuing to determine  therapeutic care and office visits, based on your individual needs.

How will I receive my medication Scripts: E-Scripts will remain in place and will not be changing even post COVID-19. (it is required by  Federal law for controlled scheduled medications). ALL medication appointments for "Suboxone Program Care" must be done/seen at least two wks prior to your fill date by your "Prescribing Doctor, who is Dr. Barnes for most all of our current patients.
This two wk rule will always remain in effect. It is "not" related to the COVID-19 crisis. All scripts will be on file with your regular pharmacy on record and cannot be picked up until the actual fill date. Please do not attempt to pick up your medication prior to the date without FIRST discussing your need for a early fill with your therapist and  doctor. This requires special paperwork and can only be done based on "Federal Laws"  two times a year for family emergencies or vacations travels. (Your Insurance company "may" or "may not" elect to pay for the medication coverage. We have been aware there is some policies  with specific "Pharmacies" that are posing problems for patients. We are not able to determine who this will impact or not, as it is between you and your insurance company/pharmacy. We do provide the paperwork required by Fed Law when it is merited. We will continue to do our part to assist you.

What Happens if Someone Needs to Come to the Front Desk inside to see Staff?

We are "Requiring"  that you continue to check in curb side if you have not received both vaccines. If you have received both vaccines, you will be required to wear a mask upon entry, and one can be provided for you. Please CALL before coming to office, so they can plan ahead and have things ready for you.

Front Desk Access for Check In's and Script Counts (Med/Strip counts). updated 6/21

It is Federal Law which requires ALL patients on Suboxone bring in their medications with "each" appointment to be "available" for being counted if requested. It is "not" Federal law that it is counted, its fed law that you have them with you in full so if you are randomly asked to have them counted, you are in compliance with the program. We are now increasing the number of patients we will be having counts done as determined "randomly" by our licensed providers and carried through by staff. Please simply have them with you and there will be no issues.

What Happens on Bad Weather Days to Curb Side Services?  Updated 9-1-21 
As we have been doing, you simply arrive, and call into the office to inform staff that you are here. OR you can now text our text line to let staff know you have arrived. Once this occurs, you will be informed (by phone), when to come on in. We are limiting our waiting room to (1) persons at a time.  Even if the door is not locked, if you see someone inside, pls do "not" enter!

Waiting Room Rules to Remember:

  1. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed in our waiting area at any time. (Unless they are being seen as a patient). Please make sure you have appropriate child supervision in your vehicle if you have any reason to believe that you may need to enter the waiting area.
  2. On Bad Weather Days, (1) persons will be allowed in waiting room at a time. Please read the posting above for details.
  3. Non Established 1st Time Patients: If you have been vaccinated pls be sure to bring your card so that it can be placed inside your medical chart at the time of your initial intake. All paperwork will be provided to you for filling out inside your car or in some cases you will be able to take home and return with your paperwork filled out. We are working on updating our system for online processing and plan to have this completed this fall. We depend on other companies who are very short staffed due to the COVID/DELTA impact. 

 

 

 

 

 

If you are Sick, Quarantined or have a family Member with COVID:19
As is standard at PWC If you are experiencing symptoms like fever, cough, congestion, sore throat, runny nose or shortness of breath please contact us by calling our main office phone lines prior to the date and time of your appointment(s), at 910-238-4513 and if we are closed you may also send us a email. Also please leave a voicemail and someone will call you as soon as we are available.
 Please see your Primary Care Doctor immediately if you are showing symptoms! We will be asking for medical documentation with the date and time seen, as well as any medications prescribed. (remember that you may have medication restrictions, please discuss all scripts with the doctor you are seeing, and notify us PRIOR to filling any scripts that "may" cause issues if you are on Suboxone. Do NOT fill a medication that is a controlled substance of any type PRIOR to receiving authorization from your Doctor at Palms Wellness! 

Here is what we will need upon your return for appointments that may have been rescheduled for you due to any illness or quarantine.

  • Contact Our Office as soon as you are aware that you are sick
  • See your Primary Care Doctor and get a Medical Note with the date and diagnosis
  • date(s) seen, plus the follow up date for that provider.
  • Provide a copy via email, fax, 910-238-4547, and/or text photo of note, Text to: 910-548-0316 (this number is for text msg only for after hrs.non emergency only)
  • This will be placed in your chart, so that proper safe wrap-around medical care can be provided to you. 

Our goal is to keep you safe and your care in place. If you are a current patient, odds are you have experienced sicknesses, and this past yr. many of you have had family members, or your workplaces and yourselves quarantined. And you know we care! We are here for you!

All established patients will be provided access to care even if you or a dependent family member are sick with an illness such as flu or the COVID-19 or are Quarantined.  Updated 4-21
Your care will be provided utilizing virtual care technology at your regular scheduled appointment date and time. We do not want any of our patients to feel they do not have access to therapeutic support care, medications; particularly at a time like this.

What Do I Do If I Need to Have My Regular Lab Test Done (UA) instead of a Swab?

  • If you have regular lab testing needed, you will be required to come by the office and do a "scheduled" Lab. We are no longer doing "Drop In Labs". All Labs "must" be done at least 10-14 days Prior to your appointment for Med management.

Medications will be through E-Script after you have met with your provider(s) using tele-health or our virtual clinic, or seen physically in our office, or any upcoming "mobile" site we are working to provide in the near future. (More information coming soon.)  Pls bare in mind,... Again, must have this done using our 2 WK rule if you are on a controlled substance. (See below)

TWO WEEK RULE MANDATORY For ALL CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE SCRIPTS... No exceptions! (at all).

For Our Suboxone Program Patients Pls note and "Remember" the "Two Week Rule"....You "must" have your Med Appointment with the Doctor 2 weeks PRIOR to the date of your Refill! It will be on file with your Pharmacy, and cannot be picked up until your actual fill date. This rule has been in place for many years and "must" be adhered to at all times! (This is for your own protection in the event of a family emergency, you get sick, have to travel unannounced for your job, and for Hurricane and other Natural Disaster's which cause unplanned (and sometimes long closures). 

For matters relating to medications and your care needs please contact us directly at 910-238-4513. We require that you follow the providers treatment plan for you, as they work to take care of you in the safety way possible.

Note to Our Patients:
As a current patient you already know we value you as the genuine person which you are! And your health and safety matter to us. Pls keep us updated if you have something transpire off hours so that we know you are ok! See you soon! If you need to leave a message with us after hours, plus TEXT our "Warm Line" at 910-548-0316. We have been handing out this number to each of our current patients at the end of Aug. We ask that you please place this TEXT line in your cell phone in the event you have a issue after hours (such as a pharmacy issue), so that you are able to get a message to our staff. One of our licensed providers will be given the information as soon as they are reachable. You can also feel free to email your Therapist for information you would like to share and have no "urgent" need for a response. Remember, our staff works in other communities other days of the week. We always look forward to hearing from you! So never hesitate to send us your good news, or any issues you may be having! We are here for you!
